‘Terminator’ TV Series In Works In Conjunction With Film Reboot; Zack Stentz & Ashley Miller To Write And Exec Produce
Skydance Prods. and Annapurna Pictures are expanding the Terminator franchise to television with a TV series to be done in conjunction with the first rebooted Terminator film slated for release in 2015. The series will be written and exec produced by feature scribes Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller, with the writers of the upcoming Terminator movie Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier serving as executive producers. The series will follow a critical moment from the original 1984 Terminator movie, taking it in a completely different direction that the film. The upcoming Terminator movie is also expected to be tied to the first movie. As the rebooted film trilogy and the new television series progress, the two narratives will be designed to intersect with each other.

E! Adapting Adam Zwar’s Australian Comedy ‘Lowdown’
E! is developing a remake of award-winning Australian comedy series Lowdown. Lowdown is an hourlong scripted comedy that revolves around Alex, a celebrity journalist, and his dysfunctional relationships with his ex-girlfriend, editor and celebrity subjects. He will do whatever it takes to get a great story out of them — from exposing illicit text messages to outing gay athletes. The comedy hails from Universal Cable productions and original series creators Adam Zwar and Amanda Brotchie’s High Wire Films. Zwar and Brotchie will pen the adaptation and executive produce alongside Dave Bartis, Doug Liman and Nicole Minchin. Gene Klein will co-executive produce.

MTV Nabs Series Adaptation Of ‘Shannara’ Fantasy Novels With Jon Favreau Directing, Al Gough & Miles Millar Writing
MTV has given a script-to-series commitment to Shannara, a drama series based on Terry Brooks’ popular fantasy books. The project, from Sonar Entertainment and Farah Films, has Jon Favreau on board to direct and will be written by Al Gough and Miles Millar. The trio will executive produce with Brooks and Dan Farah. If MTV likes the script, it is expected to give the project a straight-to-series order. The story is centered on the Shannara family, whose descendants are empowered with ancient magic and whose adventures continuously reshape the future of the world. The first season of the potential series will be based on The Elfstones Of Shannara, the second title in the series.

Christina Wayne In Pod Deal With Endemol Studios, Sets Drama With Tony Krantz
Endemol Studios has signed its first pod deal, bringing in Christina Wayne and her Assembly Entertainment shingle to develop and produce scripted projects for cable and other TV distribution platforms. Under Wayne’s deal with Endemol Studios, she will develop existing and new projects, including MDX, an international medical disaster drama produced with Tony Krantz‘s Flame Ventures. ER alum Carol Flint will write the script and serve as executive alongside Jonathan Klein, Krantz and Wayne. “MDX is a dramatic series nod to the classic disaster films of the ’70s and ’80s, but done real,” Krantz said.

‘World War Z’ Scribe Drew Goddard Suits Up For Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’
Marvel
said today that Drew Goddard will write and direct the first episode of Daredevil, the Marvel Television series that will air on Netflix in 2015 as part of a wide-ranging live-action deal between those companies. He will stay on as showrunner/executive producer of the 13-episode series.

Legendary TV Lands Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Films in First Major Producing Pact
Legendary Television
has brokered a multi-year deal with Ben Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld’s Red Hour Films to develop and produce exclusive content for both TV and digital platforms. Pact is the first major deal for Bruce Rosenblum, the former head of Warner Bros. Television. Debbie Liebling, president of Red Hour Television, will oversee the development of the company’s series for Legendary.

‘Entourage’ Creator Doug Ellin Inks Overall Deal With CBS TV Studios
Doug Ellin
is hard at work making the Entourage movie, but when he is done, he will be returning to television with an overall deal at CBS TV Studios. Under the rich, three-year pact, Ellin will develop broadcast and cable projects for the studio under a newly formed production company (name TBD) with Jim Lefkowitz, who will help spearhead development.

AMC Cancels ‘Low Winter Sun’

has found her next small-screen gig. The actress has been tapped to star in TV Land’s Darren Star pilot Younger. Based on the novel of the same name by Pamela Redmond Satran, Younger tells the story of a suddenly single New Jersey housewife and mother in her early 40s who, unable to restart her career, decides to lie about her age and successfully passes herself off as a 20-something.

ABC Reduces ‘Scandal’ Order To 18 Episodes
There will be less Scandal on ABC‘s schedule this season than originally planned. The network has reduced the order for the hot Shonda Rhimes drama from 22 to 18 episodes. The network wouldn’t give a reason for the cutback but Scandal star Kerry Washington is pregnant, and it’s getting hard to hide the pregnancy in loose-fitting clothes for the normally super stylish and elegant Olivia Pope — and it’s hard to reduce Washington’s workload as Pope is the show and in most scenes.

‘Dads’ episode order cut by Fox
Fox has reduced the freshman sitcom’s pickup from nine episodes to six. Last month Fox announced that Dads would run through Feb. 11 and then depart the schedule to make room for other shows. The cut helps the comedy exit the stage as planned.

‘Bates Motel’ Actress to Star in Universal’s ‘Ouija’
Olivia Cooke, one of the stars of A&E’s Bates Motel, will star in Ouija, Universal’s horror movie based on the Hasbro board game. Douglas Smith is playing the male lead of the movie, which is being produced by Platinum Dunes, Blumhouse Productions and Hasbro. Stiles White is in the director’s chair. The script by Juliet Snowden and White centers on a group of friends attempting to make contact with a recently deceased classmate through a Ouija board who awaken a dark and terrifying presence.

Disney Gets Full Rights To Future ‘Indiana Jones’ Pics In Deal With Paramount

and Paramount Pictures announced today that they’ve reached a marketing and distribution deal for the Indiana Jones franchise. Among other things, this agreement removes the last hurdle for Disney in moving forward with future Indiana Jones movies, which the company acquired when it purchased Lucasfilms in a multibillion-dollar deal late last year. The new deal gives Disney marketing and distribution rights to future films as well as retaining its Lucasfilm’s ownership rights — which basically means they’ve got the whole shebang now.
