Benito Martinez and W. Earl Brown have been cast in American Crime, ABC’s drama pilot written and exec produced by John Ridley, fresh off winning an Oscar for 12 Years A Slave. Martinez will play Alonzo, a hardworking, middle-class widowed father whose son is accused of the crime. Brown will play Tom, the emotionally distraught father of Lily, widow of the murdered war vet.

VH1 Orders Reality Series Starring ’90s Heartthrob Rico Suave and His Abs
has reached into the vault for its new series and pulled out ’90s heartthrob Gerardo Mejia. You may know Mejia as “Rico Suave.” VH1 is bringing him (along with his family) back into the limelight with a 10-episode series order for the half-hour series, “Suave Says” (working title). It will premiere later this year. The series will follow the now music exec, who helped usher Enrique Iglesias and others’ careers, as he and wife, Kathy, run their family.


The Awe-Inspiring Enormity of the TV Business
One possible reason that live Internet TV watching isn’t ready for primetime is that content delivery networks and service providers don’t see that viewers are begging for it, since old-fashioned TV is still such an enormous behemoth. A new Nielsen survey of traditional TV vs. digital vide viewership found that there are 283 million TV viewers, each consuming an average 146 hours a month. Compare that with 155 million digital video viewers averaging just shy of 13 hours monthly on a mobile device or desktop.


Dish Will Pull Back Ad-Skipping on ABC Shows Under Disney Pact

and The Walt Disney Co. struck a long-term programming deal Sunday — and as part of the deal, the satcaster has agreed to disable the ad-skipping function in its Hopper DVR for three days for ABC programming, according to a published report.
