Cougar Town co-executive producers Chrissy Pietrosh and Jessica Goldstein have signed a two-year overall deal with Universal TV. Under the pact, which begins June 1, the duo will develop new projects.

(from Fri) Fox Developing Manson Murders Event Series From Bret Easton Ellis, Rob Zombie
Fox is possibly revisiting the gory Manson murders with the help of writer Bret Easton Ellis and musician Rob Zombie. In association with Alcon Television and Madhouse Entertainment, the project is in very early development for a possible event series. Ellis will write the script with Zombie poised to direct. The project plans to focus on different characters whose paths cross surrounding the brutal 1969 murders ordered by cult leader Charles Manson, which left seven people dead.

has joined the CBS drama pilot Red Zone, written by Nikki Toscano and directed by James Foley. Also cast in the Uni TV project is Shanley Caswell.

Billy Brown has been cast in ABC drama pilot How To Get Away With Murder starring Viola Davis, written by Pete Nowalk and executive produced by Shonda Rhimes. Brown will play Nate, a respected police detective who is having an affair with Annalise and is caught by Wes (Alfred Enoch).

Rich Sommer Cast In CBS Pilot ‘Good Session’, Brian Howe In ‘Save the Date’

is taking a comedy turn with a co-starring role in CBS’ half-hour pilot Good Session. Brian Howe is set to co-star in CBS’ half-hour hybrid comedy pilot Save The Date. Howe will play Ray, Kate and Hillary’ (Michelle Trachtenberg) wry-humored dad, who’s been married to Connie (Julie White) for decades in an active, happy marriage.

has nabbed a lead role in ABC’s drama pilot Exposed, from writer Charles Randolph, Peter Traugott’s TBD Entertainment, and Universal TV.

British actress Jessica Knappett and Iris Bahr are set as female leads opposite David Schwimmer in ABC comedy pilot Irreversible, from Peter Tolan and Sony Pictures TV.

Henry Simmons has been cast in Saint Francis, Chris Moynihan’s multi-camera comedy pilot for ABC. Simmons will play Francis’ (Imperioli) business partner at the bar they own.

Fox set to Release the Hounds with US format deal
is set to air a local version of horror gameshow format Release the Hounds. The US version will likely run to six one-hour episodes and be part of Fox’s fall schedule. The US one-hour series will likely be filmed in the UK and at the same country manor as the original UK show. It will be produced by Gogglebox. The Release the Hounds formathas contestants compete over a round of suspense-filled horror-themed challenges for a cash prize. The winner ultimately has to escape from the grounds of a country house while being pursued by a pack of hounds.


Hulu Hires Disney’s Tim Connolly as Head of Distribution
has hired Tim Connolly, who has run The Walt Disney Co.’s digital distribution initiatives for TV content, to be head of distribution as CEO Mike Hopkins continues to rebuild the company’s management team. Connolly most recently was Disney’s VP of digital video distribution and new product development.


Kim Hee-chul to Star in New Korean Dramedy
K-pop star Kim Hee-chul (Super Junior) has signed on to lead the cast of Grandpas Over Flowers Investigation Team, a tentatively titled comedy drama slated to air on CJ E&M’s tvN later this year. Grandpas Over Flowers Investigation Team will follow the adventures of a man whose co-workers have suddenly turned into 70 year olds.

UKTV’s Dave Renews Crackanory
The UKTV channel Dave has commissioned a second season of Crackanory, a "story time" show for adults. Crackanory tells satirical and contemporary stories using a combination of live action and animation. The program comes from Tiger Aspect Productions.


ABC’s Live Oscar Internet Stream Suffers Nationwide Outage
Unexpected demand for ABC’s live stream of the Oscars telecast over the Internet resulted in the video going down for users across the U.S., the network said Sunday. As of 10:45 p.m. Eastern, the feeds were back up, according to the rep, declining to provide additional info.

The Next 24 Hour Disney Day Has Been Announced for May 23-24
For this year’s all-night event, everyone is being invited to show their #DisneySide by dressing as their favorite Disney hero or villain. According to Disney both coasts will feature a great lineup of events showcasing the good-vs.-evil of classic Disney stories including character meet-and-greets throughout the parks, special entertainment, event merchandise and special food and beverage offerings. The event will run from 6 a.m., May 23 to 6 a.m., May 24, 2014, local time.

(tech) Apple’s “iOS in the Car” Becomes CarPlay, Due in Vehicles Later This Year
Apple on Monday announced CarPlay, its effort to give the iPhone a bigger place inside cars. Unveiled at an auto show in Geneva, Switzerland, CarPlay lets drivers access their iPhone content and maps from the car’s entertainment system. Ferrari, Mercedes and Volvo are showing off CarPlay implementations at the show, while other makers pledging to include CarPlay in future vehicles include BMW, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Suzuki and Toyota. CarPlay taps Siri to allow drivers to make calls, listen to voice mail and hear incoming alerts and messages.
