Amazon Orders Comedy Pilot From David Gordon Green & Steven Soderbergh
Amazon Studios is building up its next pilot slate. The latest project to get a pilot green light by the studio arm of the streaming service is single-camera comedy Red Oaks, which has Oscar-winning filmmaker Steven Soderbergh attached to executive produce and David Gordon Green (Eastbound & Down) to direct and executive produce. Written/exec produced by Greg Jacobs and Joe Gagemi, the comedy is an upstairs/downstairs set at a country club that focuses on the employees and their high-end clientele. The setting echoes that of ABC’s Susannah Grant drama series.
‘The Wire’ Creator David Simon to Lead Oprah’s MLK Miniseries for HBO
David Simon will lead HBO’s Oprah Winfrey-produced miniseries about the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. Simon is expected to write (at least) the first hour of the six-part miniseries, which is based on the book “America: In the King Years,” written by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Taylor Branch. Simon will guide the project along with his “Treme” co-creator, Eric Overmyer.
Fox’s ‘24′ Advertising Fees Among TV’s Priciest
Even Jack Bauer, the indefatigable U.S. super agent from the popular Fox series “24,” can be bought. Fox is seeking as much as $500,000 for a 30-second ad in the debut of “24: Live Another Day,” a much–ballyhooed revival of its groundbreaking spy drama, and between $325,000 and $350,000 for a spot in subsequent episodes. CBS found success last year with the debut of “Under the Dome,” a sci-fi drama based on a story by noted horror author Stephen King. CBS is seeking an average of $165,000 to $185,000 for a 30-second ad in the show’s second season.
Variety: ABC Struggles with Low Ratings, High Drama Casualty Rate
After low ratings for its second airing, “Mind Games” could become the third Tuesday ABC drama to get a quick hook this season. The network has done OK with “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” and has high hopes for “Resurrection,” which debuts this Sunday, but otherwise has struggled mightily with its high volume of new dramas this season.

Stewart will play Betsy, who is living off alimony.

Penelope Ann Miller, coming off a stint on ABC’s Mistresses, has been cast in the network’s drama pilot American Crime. Miller will play Eve, the emotionally shattered mother of the killed man’s badly beaten wife who is on life support. Chris Butler has booked NBC’s multi-camera comedy pilot Lifesaver, from writer Wil Calhoun, Uni TV and TBD Entertainment.

Patina Miller has been cast in CBS drama pilot Madam Secretary, from ep Morgan Freeman and CBS Studios. Ciara Bravo and Nolan Sotillo have booked lead roles on Fox’s pilot Red Band Society, from Amblin TV and ABC Studios. Bravo will play Emma, a beautiful patient on the pediatric ward struggling with anorexia. Sotillo will play Jordi Palacios, a very smart and resourceful young man who refuses to take “No” for an answer.
