Syfy Developing Alien Invasion Drama From Michael Horowitz & Hypnotic
Syfy has put in development Absolute Zero, a futuristic thriller from former Burn Notice co-executive producer Michael Horowitz, Universal Cable Prods and Doug Liman and David Bartis’ studio-based Hypnotic. Set in 2124, Absolute Zero follows the denizens of a remote mining colony who discover a dangerous new species on a moon of Jupiter, setting off the first stage of an alien invasion ultimately heading for Earth. Horowitz is writing the script and will executive produce with Hypnotic’s Liman, Bartis and Gene Klein.

Don’t expect to see Maksim Chmerkovskiy gliding across the “Dancing With the Stars” stage any time soon. One of the ABC reality show’s breakout pros announced on “The View” Tuesday that he’s “done (with) dancing” on “DWTS.” “They can do so much more and so much better” with another pro, he said. “I’m taking up a huge spot, and I don’t want to take it up anymore.”

CNBC, Fox Now Offer Programs Through Apple TV
Apple TV users will be able to watch live streams of CNBC* shows, including “Squawk Box” and “Mad Money” with Jim Cramer, and catch up on the previous day’s episodes of such popular prime time Fox programs as “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Sleepy Hollow” and “New Girl,” through new agreements reached with the networks. Apple TV now offers shows from three of the four major broadcasters: ABC, NBC and Fox.
Disney Asia ups Candland to president
Sixteen-year Disney veteran Paul Candland has been promoted to president of The Walt Disney Company Asia. Candland, who is currently president of Walt Disney Japan, will now be charged with running Disney’s Asia strategy and coordinating its businesses in a region that covers Japan, Korea, South East Asia and Greater China.
Nikki Finke: E! Czar Suzanne Kolb To Be Axed
I’ve learned that E! Entertainment Television President Suzanne Kolb is getting the boot in early fall after 3 years in the job. I’m told NBCUniversal Cable Chairman Bonnie Hammer all this time has been moving slowly but steadily to find a replacement for the unmitigated disaster atop the pop culture channel. She put Suzanne in there. She doesn’t want to do that again. "It’s a delicate situation. She’s got to find the right person," sources tell me.
Film firm IM Global taps former Syfy boss for TV
US film financier IM Global is launching a TV division and has recruited Mark Stern, the former president of original content at Syfy, to run the unit. Stern will be based in LA and report to IM Global boss Stuart Ford. The formal creation of an IM Global TV division comes after it announced its first TV series earlier this month. It will be a partner on eight-part crime thriller set in Liverpool, The Killing Pool, based on the Kevin Sampson book series of the same name.

The imprint, called Alloy Entertainment, released its first three titles and new titles will be released through Amazon Publishing’s Powered by Amazon program. With its new digital imprint, Alloy aims to test out titles that could be spun off into TV shows and released later in print.
