‘Cortes’ Drama From Martin Scorsese & Benicio Del Toro In Works At HBO
HBO is taking on a pivotal moment in the history of the Americas with Cortes, a high-profile drama series in development. It is being written/executive produced by Chris Gerolmo, directed/executive produced by Martin Scorsese and executive produced by Benicio Del Toro who is interested in starring as the Aztec conqueror.Cortes will tell the sweeping story of Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés, who brought down the Aztec empire; Malinche, the Mayan girl who helped him do it; and Montezuma, the Aztec leader he befriended and finally put in chains.
John Hamburg Launches Production Company, Inks Overall Deal With 20th TV
Comedy writer-director-producer John Hamburg is launching Particular Pictures. The company, which will develop television and film projects, has signed a two-year overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television. TBS is going all in on American Dad. Less than a month after it started airing original episodes of the Seth MacFarlane cartoon, which aired its first 10 seasons on Fox, the cable network has ordered a new 22-episode season of the 20th Century Fox Television series.
Nielsen to Reportedly Measure Netflix and Amazon Viewership
One of TV’s bigger mysteries may soon be solved. Nielsen Media, the company with the standard measurement of U.S. TV ratings, has announced plans to measure subscription online video services like Neflix — reports The Wall Street Journal. That means that Netflix and its blockbuster series such as Orange is the New Black and House of Cards will finally have transparent viewership data. Amazon.com’s Prime Instant Video service, recently making waves with original Transparent, will also fall under the measurement system.

Peter Berg Tackling ‘The Hunt for El Chapo’ for Universal
Universal has picked up the rights to The Hunt for El Chapo, a New Yorker article about the capture of notorious drug cartel leader Joaquin Guzman. Craig Borten is on board to write the adaptation. Guzman was the head of the Sinaloa cartel and in the early 21st century became Mexico’s top cartel kingpin. Guzman, who was imprisoned in the early 1990s but escaped, evaded capture for over a decade while inspiring narcocorridos, local folk songs centering on drug lords. He was captured February 22, 2104 in a operation conducted by the Mexican Navy, the DEA and the U.S. Marshals.

Colbie Caillat and Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy will also appear in the already star-studded season.
AEG to Broadcast Coachella, Four Other Live Music Festivals, on AXS TV
A.E.G. has become the latest concert promoter to make its lineup of live events a little more entertaining. The company, which owns and produces the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Stagecoach Country Music Festival, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Rock on the Range Music Festival, and Firefly Music Festival, will broadcast the events on AXS TV next year.

Funny or Die Debuts ‘Walking Dead’ Recap Series
Funny or Die just debuted a recap webseries for AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” titled “The Walking Fred,” and hosted by (you guessed it) Fred, one of the show’s many zombies. The series is written by and stars Luke Barnett, and directed by Vincent Masciale. While actual “Walking Dead” cast members appear elusive in the first episode, the series will supposedly feature real actors from the show in upcoming installments.
Netflix Expanding to Australia and New Zealand in March
Netflix that it will be available in Australia and New Zealand for the first time in March 2015.
Disney Animation and Pixar Get Their Own Presidents
Andrew Millstein has been promoted to the top post at Disney Animation Studios, while Pixar vet Jim Morris has been named president of that unit. The promotions were announced by Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios president Ed Catmull, to whom Millstein and Morris will report. The duo will continue to oversee business operations and production at their respective studios.
