USA’s Hacker Drama ‘Mr. Robot’ Ordered to Series
has ordered to series its hacker drama Mr. Robot. The cabler has handed out a 10-episode order to the drama from Universal Cable Productions, marking its first pilot pickup from its 2015-16 slate. Mr. Robot centers on a young programmer, Elliot (Rami Malek), who suffers from an antisocial disorder and can only connect to people by hacking them. Christian Slater stars as Mr. Robot, a mysterious anarchist who recruits Elliot into an underground hacker organization intent on bringing down corporate America. Sam Esmail wrote the script and executive produces alongside Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin, Chad Hamilton and Niels Arden Oplev, the latter of whom directed the pilot.

David Fincher & James Ellroy Developing 1950s Los Angeles Drama For HBO
has closed deals for a noir drama series project from David Fincher and L.A. Confidential writer James Ellroy. Written by Ellroy, Shakedown, now in development, is set in the tabloid world and the underbelly of Los Angeles in the 1950s and centers on a real-life private detective. It is inspired by the life of legendary 1950s Hollywood vice cop-turned-private eye Fred Otash.

Sarah Silverman to Star in HBO Comedy Pilot
About a pathologically honest woman having a modern midlife crisis. Silverman will star and executive produce the comedy. Lucy Prebble will pen the script and exec produce alongside Silverman, Ash Atalla, Silverman’s manager Amy Zvi and Dan Hine.

Barbie Kligman Inks Overall Deal With ABC Studios
ABC Studios
has signed an overall deal with Secrets & Lies executive producer/showtunner Barbie Kligman. Under the two-year pact, Kligman will continue on Secrets & Lies if the mystery drama goes to a second season while also developing new projects for the studio where she has been for four years.

Daniel Wu To Star In AMC Martial Arts Drama Series ‘Badlands’
has tapped Hong Kong actor Daniel Wu to play the lead of its direct-to-series martial arts drama Badlands (working title). Wu also will serve as an executive producer on the six-episode series, loosely based on the Chinese tale “Journey to the West.” In a land controlled by feudal barons, Badlands tells the story of a ruthless, well-trained warrior named Sunny (Wu) and a young boy who embark on a journey across a dangerous land to find enlightenment.

The announcement was made during last night’s Hollywood Divas season one reunion special.


eOne rides with Dr Cabbie
A television series based on the 2014 feature film Dr Cabbie, featuring Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, is in the development in Canada. Producer and distributor Entertainment One (eOne) will co-develop and coproduce the spin-off to the film, which followed a South Asian doctor turned cab driver who converts his taxi into a mobile clinic.
