NBC Picks Up Sniper Miniseries ‘The Reaper’ From Weinstein Co.
The Reaper has landed at NBC. The network has given a production order to a six-hour miniseries from the Weinstein Co. based on the recently released book The Reaper: Autobiography Of One Of The Deadliest Special Ops Snipers by Nicholas Irving, the U.S. Army 3rd Ranger Battalion’s deadliest sniper. NBC went aggressively after the project, announced by the Weinstein Co. a month ago, and bought it preemptively. A writer for the mini is expected to be named soon.

Alec Baldwin to Play New York Mayor in HBO Drama
stars as a billionaire real estate developer, divorced father, philanthropist, society fixture and celebrated libertine, who unexpectedly becomes mayor of NY. After a heated bidding war, the hour-long entry has landed in development at HBO. He’ll be joined by writer/EP Wells Tower and EP Cary Brokaw. The still-untitled project hails from Universal Television, where Baldwin has a deal, and the actor’s El Dorado Pictures.

(review) THR: ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’
The good news is that Kimmy is already really good; of the first six episodes, each one gets better as it goes (though the pilot is particularly strong). Ellie Kemper gives a virtuoso performance as Kimmy Schmidt, one of the four “Indiana mole women” as the media immediately dubs them.

Harrison Ford “OK” After L.A. Plane Crash, Says Son
Harrison Ford
is “battered but OK” according to his son Ben. Harrison Ford was hospitalized on Thursday after crash landing a plane in Venice, Calif., sources confirm. The 72-year-old crash landed on Penmar Golf Course after something apparently went wrong mechanically with the single-engine plane at around 2:25 p.m.

Johnny Galecki Brings In Andrew Haas To Join His Production Shingle Alcide Bava

has hired Andrew Haas to be vice president and his producing partner at Galecki’s Warner Bros-based Alcide Bava Productions. The label is currently producing the Bobby Miller-directed The Master Cleanse, which stars Galecki, Anna Friel, Angelica Houston and Oliver Platt.

Hollywood Film, TV Shoots in Canada Surged in 2014
U.S. series like ‘Fargo’ and ‘Arrow’ went north for shooting as the falling local dollar made Canada more appealing. The 5 percent year-on-year surge to $1.83 billion in film and TV production activity north of the border was down from the ten-year peak of $1.87 billion in total production spending reached in 2011, according to a report from the Canadian Media Production Association.
