CBS Orders Comic Thriller Series ‘BrainDead’ from ‘The Good Wife’ Creators

CBS has set a straight-to-series order for 13 episodes of “BrainDead,” a one-hour comic thriller from Robert and Michelle King.“BrainDead” will follow a young Capitol Hill staffer after getting her first job in Washington, D.C., after discovering that the government has stopped working and aliens have come to earth and eaten the brains of Congressmen and Hill staffers.

Syfy Acquires ‘Wynonna Earp’ Series; Melanie Scrofano To Star

Syfyhas officially acquired Wynonna Earp, a 13-episode Canadian drama series based on the IDW Publishing comic created by Beau Smith. Melanie Scrofanois set to star as Wynonna. Emily Andras is developing the series for television and will serve as executive producer and showrunner. A modern supernatural Western, it follows Wyatt Earp’s great granddaughter as she battles demons and other supernatural beings.

Phillip Noyce & Thomas Carter To Helm A+E Networks’ ‘Roots’; Questlove Named Music Producer

A+E Networks has tapped Phillip Noyceand Thomas Carterto direct nights one and three, respectively, of its four-night eight-hour scripted event seriesRoots. Directors for nights two and four are yet to be announced. In addition, A+E has named Questlove executive music producer.


Sleepy Hollow: Shannyn Sossamon Joins Season 3 Cast as ‘Mysterious’ New Series Regular

Sleepy Hollow is opening a Pandora’s box this fall, and Shannyn Sossamon is going to be waiting inside. The Wayward Pines actress is joining the Fox drama in the series-regular role of Pandora.

We now know the landing spot for Susanne Daniels, who exited today as head of programming at MTV. The veteran’s new job will be VP of YouTube Originals, where she will manage the video giant’s originals pipeline, overseeing production and finding ways to bring new series to fans.She will report to Robert Kyncl, Head of Content & Business Operations at the Google-owned company.

Hulu brings in Sundance exec for drama

Hulu has hired the VP of scripted programming at AMC Networks’ SundanceTV to lead its slate of drama series. Jordan Helman will report to head of originals Beatrice Spingborn, who joined Hulu last year from Storyline Entertainment.

NBA to offer games a la carte for $6.99

NBA League Pass, the league’s out-of-market live game service, will soon let fans buy single game and team packages for the 2015-16 season. Viewers will be able pay to watch select out-of-market games throughout the season for $6.99 per game, or $119.99 for one team’s whole season.


Nickelodeon Names James Stephenson SVP Animation & Games

Nickelodeonhas filled the vacuum in its top animation ranks, expanding the responsibilities of James Stephensonwho has been named to the newly created position of SVP, Animation and Games. He will be adding animation production and development to his current duties of digital content creation.

Chris McCarthy Named VH1 General Manager

Chris McCarthyhas been named General Manager of VH1, overseeing all creative and business functions for the Viacom network. He replaces Tom Calderone, who has stepped down as president of VH1 after seven years.
