The first, a 1970s/’80s porn drama titled The Deuce, has snagged boldface names James Franco and Breaking Bad’s Michelle MacLaren as the potential series’ star and director, respectively. The second series, a political drama that’s still untitled, is set in the present-day world of Capitol Hill and will provide a detailed examination of partisanship and the influence of money on national governance.
Tom Donaghy will serve as a writer and EP on the pilot alongside Daniels. The drama is set in Atlanta and revolves around three girls who come together to form a band and Star details their rise to the top in a challenging business. And while Empire is told from the point of view of music executives, Star will be told from the perspective of the artist.

ABC Familyis rounding out its cast for drama pilot Guiltfrom writers/executive producers Nichole Millard and Kathryn Price and executive producer Stephen McPherson. Billy Zane, Daisy Head, Zachary Fall, Katrina Law and Kevin Ryan have landed series regular roles on the pilot, a fictional story that draws parallels to the story of Amanda Knox.

ABC Family has named Simran S. Sethi senior VP of original programming and development as the network looks to double its original programming slate. She will start Aug. 24. Sethi joins ABC Family from NBC, where she was senior VP of comedy development for four years.

It was announced that Hannah Minghella is moving over to the studio’s Tristar Pictures unit, which she will head as president. David Beaubaire, who had been working at Tristar as executive vp, is shifting over to Columbia, where he will be executive vp production. Palak Patel, who currently works as a producer with Joe Roth’s company, has been recruited to serve as another Columbia exec vp production.
