ABC Developing High-Concept ‘Groundhog Day’-Like Comedy ‘Laid Off’
is teaming with Ryan Jaffe and Dan Lin for comedy Laid Off. The high-concept comedy centers on a guy who wakes up one day to find that he has been "laid off" from life. Literally. He’s alive, but he’s contributed so little to the world, that to everyone else he doesn’t exist. He learns from others like him that he is stuck in this Groundhog Day-like existence until he eventually redeems himself by contributing something worthy of re-entry to the normal everyday world, a day that may never come. Jaffe will pen the script for the Warner Bros. Television comedy and exec produce alongside Lin.

Aaron Kaplan Developing 1970’s Police Drama for CBS
is developing a police drama hailing from mega-producer Aaron Kaplan, Alexandra Lydon and Niels Mueller who will pen the script. Kaplan, Lydon and Mueller will all exec produce the potential series from CBS Television Studios. The untitled show revolves around a unique, highly effective task force comprised entirely of African-American police officers, which was assembled in the early 1970s by the Boston Police Commissioner to more effectively prevent and solve crimes in previously neglected areas of the city.

Comedy Central Greenlights Workplace Comedy Pilot ‘Corporate’Comedy Centralhas given a pilot green light to Corporate. Written by Matt Ingebretson, Women sketch group members Jake Weismanand Pat Bishop, who also will direct, Corporate is described as a dark, satirical workplace comedy that follows Matt (Ingebretson) and Jake (Weisman) two junior executives-in-training who are forced to do the dirty work of the higher-ups at one of the world’s largest corporations, Hampton DeVille.

‘Girlfriends Guide to Divorce’ EP Meryl Poster Develops New Series ‘7th Avenue’ Set in 1970s NYC
Meryl Poster has found her next TV project in the world of 1970s fashion.Poster is developing “7th Avenue,” a scripted drama series that takes place at the intersection of fashion, organized crime, labor unions and big business in New York City’s Garment District.Poster will executive produce with Danny Halstead through her company, Superb Entertainment, with Media Rights Capital. Frank Pugliese is set to write the pilot.

announced that it is shifting The Vampire Diaries and spinoff The Originals to Fridays starting Jan. 29. Replacing the pair of Julie Plec-produced dramas in their soon-to-be former home on Thursdays come Jan. 21 is Arrow/Flash spinoff Legends of Tomorrow at 8 p.m. and the third season debut of The 100.


Matt Bomer To Star In ‘The Last Tycoon’ Amazon Pilot, Lifting ContingencyMatt Bomer has been tapped as the lead in The Last Tycoon, Amazon Studios’ drama pilot based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s final unfinished novel. The project, from Sony’s TriStar Television, was quietly ordered earlier this month as cast-contingent. The casting of Bomer lifts the contingency, clearing the pilot for production. The Last Tycoon was written by Billy Ray who is set to direct the pilot. The Last Tycoon centers on Stahr (Bomer), Hollywood’s first wunderkind studio executive in the 1930s as he climbs to the height of power pitting him against his mentor and current head of the studio Pat Brady, a character based on Louis B. Mayer.

Bravo’s ‘True Fiction’ Pilot Sets Cast

and Universal Cable Prods have announced the cast for hour-long scripted dark comedy pilots True Fiction (working title). True Fiction from Brian Dannelly and Michael Urban, centers on a once best-selling novelist turned prestigious East Coast college professor (Olivia Grant) who has been struggling with her much anticipated, and embarrassingly belated follow-up book.

Bravo Pilot ‘My So Called Wife’ Casts Mark Harelik in Recurring Role
dark comedy pilot “My So Called Wife” has added Mark Harelik in a recurring role. Inbar Lavi plays the lead role of Maddie, a con-artist who seduces men and women into marrying her before disappearing with their money, and getting dirt on them in the meantime so they can’t go to the police.


Marvel Goes Back to School With ‘Marvel 101’ Web SeriesWith the company’s publishing arm currently undergoing a line-wide relaunch, Marvel Entertainment has unveiled a series of YouTube videos intended to bring newcomers up to speed with the four-color origins of the Avengers, Iron Man and other characters, titled Marvel 101.
