(from Fri) CBS Developing Comedy From ‘Survivor’ Winner John Cochran & Greg Garcia
CBS has put in development Bob’s Your Uncle, a multi-camera comedy written by John Cochran and executive produced by Greg Garcia. The project, from CBS Studios and Garcia’s studio-based Amigos de Garcia Productions, centers on a hot shot lawyer who takes his socially awkward nephew under his wing and becomes his guide both in and out of the office.

(from Fri) Fox Buys Richard LaGravenese/Julianne Hough Dance Drama, Tom Fontana Medical Show From Temple Hill
Foxhas given a script commitment with penalty to two drama projects from Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen’s Temple Hill — a dance show written/executive produced by Richard LaGraveneseand executive produced by Julianne Houghand medical show Juarez General from Tom Fontana. Both will be produced by 20th Century Fox TV, where Temple Hill is under an overall deal.

(from Fri) NBC Buys Family Comedy ‘Us & Him’
NBC has picked up a script called Us & Him. Written by Jake Wilson and Sas Goldberg, the comedy is based on their lives and centers on two co-dependent best friends who must come to terms with change brought on by marriage and family starting to get in the way of their relationship. Wilson and Goldberg will pen the script and executive produce the Sony Pictures Television comedy. Will Gluck and Richie Schwartz will exec produce via their studio-based Olive Bridge Entertainment banner.

(from Fri) ‘The Wiz’ Producers Reteaming With Choreographer for NBC Dance Drama
NBC has picked up a script from The Wiz executive producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan that’s based on the life of the live musical’s choreographer, Fatima Robinson. Inspired by Robinson’s life as a dancer-turned-choreographer, the untitled drama is set in Los Angeles with early plans to set it in the 1990s, as dance begins to dominate pop culture on the streets and clubs that gave birth to hip-hop dance. The project is in the early stages of development; a writer is not yet attached to the Universal Television drama.

(from Fri) Kathryn Bigelow Prepping Jihadi Recruitment Drama for HBO
HBO is teaming with Kathryn Bigelow to develop the drama The Recruiters. The drama, based on an original idea, looks to unveil what is considered a world that’s hidden in plain sight. Set in Minnesota, the drama "will draw open an iron curtain behind which viewers will see the highly impenetrable world of Jihadi recruitment." Somali Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, poet K’naan Warsame will pen the script, executive produce and direct the project, should it move to the pilot stage. Bigelow and former HBO president Carolyn Strauss also will exec produce.

(from Fri) ‘Urban Cowboy’ Pilot Not Going Forward At Fox
Foxhas opted not to go forward with Urban Cowboy, its planned modern reimagining of the 1980 feature. After the pilot was delivered, more writing work was commissioned on the pilot as well as in the form of additional material. In the end, after deliberations, a decision was made not to proceed with a series.

Mike & Molly Has Been Canceled After Six Seasons, According to Co-Star
Mike & Molly, the CBS sitcom starring Melissa McCarthy and Billy Gardell, is entering its sixth season, which will be its final season, according to co-star Rhondi Reed. Reed posted on Facebook.

NBC’s Imaginary Friend is adding to its cast. The comedy pilot, one of the first winners from NBC’s Playground comedy initiative, has cast Grey’s Anatomy alum Brandon Scott. Written by Kassia Miller, the comedy centers on Wendy, an intelligent yet unmotivated woman who discovers a special and unexpected way of dealing with her mediocre life. Writer-actress Megan Neuringer will star.

Jeff Lemire’s Essex Country, Developing As A TV Series For CBC – Aaron Martin As Showrunner
First Generation Films (FGF) announced today it has optioned Jeff Lemire’s critically acclaimed and best-selling graphic novel ESSEX COUNTY to adapt into a scripted television series. Writer Aaron Martin has been signed to pen the pilot script and showrun the series currently in development with the CBC. This series intricately weaves the genealogy of a family’s origins across generations. The novel is an intimate study of an eccentric community and a tender meditation on family, memory, grief, secrets, and reconciliation.

Disney, France’s CanalSat Ink Exclusive Disney Channel Pact
Continuing the European trend of big incumbent TV players to tie down key premium product in the face of new SVOD competition, Vivendi’s France-based Canal Plus Group and The Walt Disney Company have inked for CanalSat, CPG’s multi-channel French satellite-cable-IPTV operator, to have exclusive carriage rights to the total bouquet of Disney channels in mainland France. Deal takes in Disney Junior, Disney XD, Disney Channel, Disney Cinema, their respective catch-up services, and to-be-launched on-demand edutainment service Disney English.
