ABC Developing Comedy ‘Kill Jill’ Produced By Patricia HeatonABChas put in development Kill Jill, a half-hour single-camera comedy executive produced by The Middle star Patricia Heaton. The project hails from Heaton and David Hunt’s FourBoys Entertainment and Warner Bros. TV. Written and executive produced by English comedian/writer Laura Solon, Kill Jill centers on an idealistic graduate who’s desperate to escape her small hometown. She takes a job with a glamorous West Coast businesswoman who appears to have it all — including a plot against her life.

Authentic Sells Scripted TV Series ‘Popular’ to ABC Signature
Authentic has set up the rib-tickling dating tome Popular: The Ups and Downs of Online Dating From the Most Popular Girl in New York City at ABC Signature. Written by Lauren Urasek and Laura Barcella, Popular chronicles Urasek’s attempt to find love among the VGL (very good looking) DDFs (disease and drug free) and those with a GSOH (good sense of humor).

Latino Romeo & Juliet Drama Set At Fox
is showing commitment to getting a Latino drama series going. The latest contender is an untitled project written/executive produced by Eduardo Cisnerosand Jason Shuman. From 20th Century Fox TV, it is described as a modern Romeo and Juliet tale set against the backdrop of Los Angeles’ new Latino wealth in the music and radio industry.

Vin Diesel, Universal TV Developing ‘Riddick’ Companion Series
Vin Diesel
is driving full-force into TV, setting up a multi-year, first-look production deal for his One Race shingle with Universal Television. One of the TV division’s first orders of business will be to develop a television series complement to “Riddick.” Fox Broadcasting Co. exec VP of event series Shana C. Waterman has been brought on as head of TV.

Netflixhas set Friday, February 26 for the premiere of the 13-episode spinoff in all territories where Netflix is available.

‘The Fosters’ Casts ‘High School Musical’ Alum
Corbin Bleu is set to guest-star on a March episode of the ABC Family drama. Garrett Clayton and Ashley Argota will also reprise their recurring roles as Chase and Lou, respectively.

, founding member of the rock band, will executive produce the project. Based on the 2003 book Home Before Daylight: My Life On the Road With the Grateful Dead, penned by roadie Steve Parish, the project has yet to find a writer.


Fox Commissions Dutch Live Phenomenon ‘The Passion’Foxhas commissioned Eye2Eye Media’s Dutch live TV event The Passionto air March 20 next year. The annual multimedia project, centred around the last hours of Jesus Christ, is also in development with German and Norwegian broadcasters. The show first aired in the Netherlands in 2011, becoming the most successful live storytelling event ever on Dutch TV.

Channel 4 Greenlights Sitcom ‘The Windsors’; BBC Nabs Stake In Amazing ProductionsThe UK’s Channel 4has greenlit comedy soap opera, The Windsors. In what’s promised as a look at the imagined lives and loves of the royal family, the stories will be fictional, but inspired by real events. The six-part series will be written by Bert Tyler-Moore and George Jeffrie. Noho Film and TV begins production next year. Exec producers are Camilla Campbell and Robert Wulff.

Historia scores Canuck hockey dramaCanadian broadcaster Corus Média is developing the first drama series for its French-language Historia channel. The untitled show is based on the life of famous ice hockey player Jean Béliveau and will be written by Jacques Savoie, directed by Patrice Sauvé and produced by Montreal-based Pixcom.

Peak TV: Scripted Series Surpass 400 in 2015In new data from FX Networks’ research, the number of scripted programs on broadcast networks, basic and pay cable networks and OTT services totaled 409 for 2015. That number represents a nine-percent increase from 2014 (376 series) and a 94-percent jump from 2009 (211 series).
