Joel Silver Transgender Drama ‘New People’ Is in the Works at Freeform
Freeform is developing “New People,” a drama series from writer Don Roos, who is executive producing with Joel Silver and Rodney Ferrell. Freeform has given a script order to the project, which is produced by Lionsgate Television and Silver’s shingle Silver Pictures. The series is based on the novel “Becoming Nicole: The Transformation of an American Family,” which tells the story of a transgender girl, her identical twin brother and their family.

(sched) Fox Comedy ‘Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life’ Gets Schedule Downgrade
Starting April 3, “Cooper Barrett” moves to 7:30 p.m. ET/PT in a timeslot switch with “Bob’s Burgers,” which will now air regularly in the higher-profile 8:30 time period. “Burgers,” now in its sixth season, will also air a second original episode at 9 that night.

Garrett Hedlund, Carey Mulligan, Jason Clarke and Jason Mitchell are in negotiations to star in the indie drama “Mud Bound.” Dee Rees is directing the film. Virgil Williams (“Criminal Minds”) penned the screenplay based on Hillary Jordan’s 2008 novel of the same name. It revolves around a city worker in a WWII-torn country who relocates his family to a failing Mississippi farm and is forced to overcome insurmountable hardships, including his brother’s return from war.

Messer: Yeah, but really, a huge part of audience are women over 50 years old and I think they do like to be scared, they like to be saved and they like to unravel a mystery. We offer that every week. And hopefully they’re learning something to protect themselves along the way.
