Lonely Island Comedy ‘Alone Together’ Gets Freeform Pilot Order
Freeform announced that it has greenlighted comedy Alone Together to pilot. The half-hour project centers on two overlooked millennial misfits from different backgrounds as they try to make their way into the vain and status-obsessed culture of Los Angeles — only to find salvation in their male/female strictly platonic friendship. Esther Povitsky (Lady Dynamite, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) and Benji Afalo (Not Safe With Nikki Glaser) will star in, write and executive produce the pilot. Eben Russell also will write and executive produce.

The Night Of is a wonderful bridge from HBO’s glorious past to its sketchy present. HBO needed another great drama desperately right now; it got one (albeit one with a finite lifespan) courtesy of its greatest star ever.

Netflix & The CW Confirm New Scripted Series Licensing Deal; Includes ‘Supergirl’, ‘Riverdale’ & More
Netflix and the CW have finalized their multi-year content licensing deal that allows Netflix to remain the exclusive U.S. subscription television service for previous seasons of scripted series broadcast on the network. Starting with the upcoming 2016-17 season, Netflix members will be able to stream full seasons for each of these programs beginning eight days after each show’s season finale.

Hollywood screenwriters’ earnings rose 1.9% last year to $362.1 million — the third straight increase — while TV writers’ pay fell 2% to $803 million, according to the Writers Guild of America West. Total covered earnings for WGA West members topped $1 billion for the fifth consecutive year, down 0.9% to $1.176 billion.

Scholastichas acquired the worldwide rights to four books by 9-year-old Hilde Lysiak — to be co-written with her father, reporter Matthew Lysiak — and now the film/TV rights are being sold off.
