Alicia Silverstone To Star In ‘American Woman’ TV Land Pilot Inspired By Kyle Richards
Alicia Silverstone(Clueless) has been tapped to star in TV LandpilotAmerican Woman, inspired by the life of The Real Housewives of Beverly HillsKyle Richards. Silverstone will play Bonnie Nolan, a mother with two daughters who finds herself facing an entirely new world after she leaves her husband. As she struggles to raise her family, Bonnie sets out to claim her own brand of independence in a world not ready to give it. The pilot is produced by John Wells Productions in association with Warner Horizon Television for TV Land, and will be executive produced by Wells and John Riggi, who wrote the pilot script.

Freeform Orders Mermaid Drama ‘The Deep’
Freeform has picked up hourlong drama The Deep to pilot. The hourlong drama takes place in Bristol Cove, a coastal town known for its legend of once being home to mermaids. When the arrival of a mysterious girl proves this folklore all too true, the battle between man and sea takes a very vicious turn as these predatory beings return to reclaim their right to the ocean. Eric Wald and Dean White will write and executive produce the pilot. Scott Stewart will direct. Emily Whitesell is set as showrunner.

Netflix is teaming with the Panama Papers journalists to adapt their story into a film. German investigative journalists Frederik Obermaier and Bastian Obermaye, who wrote the book “Panama Papers: Breaking the Story of How the World’s Rich and Powerful Hide Their Money,” will team with the streaming service and John Wells Productions to bring the book to the screen.

Ron Howard Docuseries ‘Breakthrough’ Renewed For Season 2 By Nat Geo Channel
National Geographic Channelhas ordered a second season of Breakthrough, executive produced by Imagine Entertainment and Asylum Entertainment, for premiere in spring 2017. The anthology series focuses on the world’s leading scientists and how their cutting-edge innovations and advancements change lives in the immediate future and beyond. Brendan and Emmett Malloy join the executive producing team for Season 2 and also will direct.

Fire on CBS Radford Studio Lot Leads to Evacuation
A fire on the CBS Studio Center lot in Studio City on Monday led to an evacuation of one of the lot’s buildings. The fire first broke out in the dimmer room of a sound stage at the studio – also known as the Radford lot – and was quickly extinguished, according to an individual familiar with the situation. Operations are expected to resume in the building shortly.
