“Still the King” has been picked up for a 13-episode second season by CMT. The Billy Ray Cyrus-starring comedy was one of CMT’s first original scripted joints.

‘Turn’ Renewed for Fourth and Final Season at AMC
The Revolutionary War drama will wrap its run in 2017.

Disney Channel Orders Boy With Talking Hand Comedy Pilot ‘Right Hand Guy’
Disney Channelhas given a pilot green light to Right Hand Guy, a high-concept comedy from Zach Stone is Gonna Be Famous co-creator Dan Lagana. The show stars 12-year-old Steele Stebbinsas Jeff and chronicles his adventures with his best friend Katie and his other best friend — his suddenly sentient, talking hand. Despite being attached to Jeff’s body, his right hand has a mind and personality of its own.


‘Designated Survivor’: Virginia Madsen Joins New ABC Series In Key Role
Virginia Madsen has been tapped for a major recurring role on Designated Survivor, ABC’s upcoming drama series starring Kiefer Sutherland from The Mark Gordon Company and ABC Studios. Madsen will play Kimble Hookstraten, the “other” Designated Survivor during the State of the Union address — but for the rival political party.

‘Carpool Karaoke’ Series Coming Exclusively to Apple Music
Apple Music is taking a ride with Carpool Karaoke. The viral segment that broke out on the Late Late Show With James Corden is being turned into its own series, which will air first exclusively for subscribers to Apple’s music streaming app. Carpool Karaoke, which will be produced by CBS Television Studios and Fulwell 73, will expand on the segment’s format with celebrity guests who sing along to their favorite songs and surprise fans during their ride. The host of the series is expected to be announced at a later date; Corden is not expected to take the wheel. New installments of the 16-episode series will stream weekly on Apple Music.

‘Caraoke Showdown’ gets a series green light at Spike
Spike TV has given a formal order to “Caraoke Showdown,” a half-hour game show hosted by Craig Robinson. Described as a “new, original, half-hour game show” that is like “Cash Cab” meets karaoke, “Caraoke Showdown” features Robinson posing as a driver, picking up unsuspecting contestants soon realize they’re on a karaoke-inspired game show. During rounds of game play, contestants must belt out their favorite tunes, finish the lyrics or act out songs for cash.

HBO Cancels Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s Project Greenlight
HBO will not be moving forward with a fifth season of Matt Damonand Ben Affleck‘s docuseries Project Greenlight. Damon broke the news during an interview with the Associated Press on Tuesday.


U.K. Broadcaster ITV to Cut Costs by $33 Million as Brexit Bites
Adam Crozier, chief executive of U.K. commercial broadcaster ITV, has revealed plans for a £25 million ($32.8 million) cut in overheads for next year as a response to the uncertainty provoked by the U.K.’s decision to leave the European Union, known as Brexit.

Warner Bros. to Set Up French TV Production Company
Warner Bros. Intl. Television Production, which produces local shows in 15 countries, is to set up a production company in France, led by Jean-Louis Blot. Blot, who will be based in Paris, will be responsible for setting up and running Warner Bros. Intl. Television Production France.

Unscripted production company Mission Control Media has hired Nicholas Oakley-Tilley as senior vice president of development. Reporting to Mission Control co-presidents Michael Agbabian and Dwight D. Smith, Oakley-Tilley will will be responsible for overseeing and growing Mission Control’s development slate.

Apple CEO hints at ‘bigger TV plans’
Speaking on Apple’s fiscal third quarter earnings call, Cook made reference to a TV-related release “this fall” and said the company is “building the foundation for what we believe can be a broader business over time”. The comments were in response to a question about whether Apple is interested in “driving actual video-on-demand services” or planning to “build content” as a business opportunity.

AdWeek: NBCUniversal Wraps Upfront With Huge 12.5% CPM Hikes For NBC
NBCUniversal has finished its upfront business, securing CPM increases of 12.5 percent for NBC in primetime, Comcast chairman and CEO Brian Roberts announced this morning during Comcast’s earnings call with investors. Volume was up 10 percent on the broadcast side, and 5 percent overall across NBCUniversal’s entire portfolio.
