‘Black-Ish’ Spinoff Starring Yara Shahidi In Works At ABC From Kenya Barris & Larry Wilmore
ABC is looking to spin off its acclaimed family comedy Black-ish. The network is working with series creator/executive producer Kenya Barris and ABC Studios on the project, which would be toplined by Black-ish co-star Yara Shahidi and focus on her character Zoey Johnson in college. The idea is for the potential new comedy series, created by Barris and former Black-ish showrunner Larry Wilmore, to be introduced as a backdoor pilot episode on Black-ish this spring. Sources stress that talks for the spinoff are still in very early stages, with no script and deals in place.

Travis Fimmel To Play Wyatt Earp In Anti-Hero Anthology Series He Is Developing At History
Travis Fimmel
is back in business with the A+E cable network, developing a scripted anthology series about some of history’s most infamous characters. The first installment will tell the true story of Wyatt Earp, with subsequent seasons focusing on other iconic sinners and anti-heroes. The project is based on an original idea by Fimmel, who has written the first episode and is attached to executive produce and star as Wyatt Earp. A+E Studios is producing in association with Atlas Entertainment and Imperative Entertainment.

NBC Orders ‘For God and Country’ Military Drama Pilot
The drama is described as a heart-pounding look into the complex world of the country’s bravest military heroes who make personal sacrifices while executing the most challenging and dangerous missions behind enemy lines. Dean Georgaris will pen the script and exec produce the drama via Keshet Media Group CEO Avi Nir and Keshet Studios topper Peter Traugott and his longtime producing partner Rachel Kaplan.

‘Claws’: Dean Norris Joins New TNT Dramedy Series In Recasting
Breaking Bad alum Dean Norris has been cast as a regular on Claws, TNT’s darkly comedic drama starring Niecy Nash that recently was picked up to series with a 10-episode order.


Verge: A Lawnmower Man VR series is actually happening
We don’t know much about the series, except that it’s being released by Jaunt, the company also behind Doug Liman’s VR series Invisible. Jaunt is apparently working with the current rights holders, Jim Howell and Rupert Harvey, but it doesn’t say who might be writing and directing the series. Besides The Lawnmower Man, Jaunt announced four other scripted series that are also in development. Luna is a 12-episode “sci-fi suspense series” set on an abandoned lunar base, and The Enlightened Ones is a political sci-fi series written by Tye Sheridan. Miss Gloria is a far-future series about a “robot hero” tracking down a young girl, written by Robopocalypse author Daniel H. Wilson. And Bad Trip is a stoner comedy by Todd Strauss-Schulson — according to the synopsis, it will “place the viewer in the hyper-visual and uncomfortable situation of taking various drugs in environments that are less than ideal.”

Sky orders drama from Walking Dead starUK satellite channel Sky Atlantic has commissioned an original production by Line of Duty and The Walking Dead actor Lennie James.James has written and created drama Gone, which will be directed by Nick Murphy and produced by UK-based Line of Duty prodco World Productions.Set on an East London housing estate, it features James as a violent street hustler who gets the chance to make amends with his past when he is accused of crime.Sky Atlantic has also commissioned a third and final season of crime thriller The Tunnel.The new six-part instalment, written by Emilia Di Girolamo, is set in Europe amidst hysteria about the refugee crisis, an increasing threat of terrorism, and the rise of far right groups.

Ouro smuggled into Germany
RTL Crime in Germany has picked up an eight-part drama series from Newen Distribution, the sales arm of TF1-owned French production giant Newen. Ouro (8×52’) will air on RTL Crime in in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The Canal+ original was created by Fabien Nury and produced by Mascaret Films in France. The plot follows a 20-year-old geology unit who travels to French Guyana for an internship but quickly becomes embroiled in the dangerous but potentially lucrative world of gold trafficking.


‘Tangled’: Julie Bowen Joins New Disney Channel Animated Series In Recasting
One of ABC’s top comedy stars, Modern Family‘s Julie Bowen, will be landing her voice to the upcoming Tangled animated series for sibling Disney Channel. She’ll voice Queen Arianna, Rapunzel’s mother in the animated series, based on the 2010 movie, which will launch in March with a Disney Channel original movie. Bowen takes over for Ashley Judd, who initially was cast in the role.


Veteran Disney Exec Robert Langer Named EVP CFO Disney/ABC Television Group
Veteran Disney executive Robert Langer has been named executive vice president and chief financial officer, Disney|ABC Television. He replaces Peter Seymour, who announced his plans to depart the group last November. Langer will report to Ben Sherwood, co-chair, Disney Media Networks & president, Disney|ABC Television. Langer most recently served as The Walt Disney Company’s country manager for Germany, Switzerland & Austria, leading all Disney operations and businesses within this region.

‘Fresh Off the Boat’ and Six-Word Memoir Project Team for Immigration Book
The Fresh Off the Boat producers are teaming with the Six-Word Memoir Project for Six Words Fresh Off the Boat: Stories of Immigration, Identity, and Coming to America. The crowd-sourced book of amuse-bouche-sized stories comes out in September, publisher Kingswell, an imprint at the Disney Publishing Group, and 20th Century Fox Television announced. People can submit stories at through Feb. 15 for consideration for inclusion in the book.
