Elizabeth Banks Police Dramedy Scores ABC Pilot Order
ABC is teaming with Elizabeth Banks for dramedy pilot The Trustee. The hourlong comedic project is described as a fun female buddy-cop comedy. It revolves around a driven but stubborn detective who finds unlikely help from her precinct’s trustee, a larger-than-life ex-con who is finishing out her prison sentence doing menial tasks for the police department. Jay Scherick and David Ronn will pen the script for Warner Bros. Television.

Mindy Kaling, Tina Fey, Bill Lawrence Comedies Land NBC Pilot Orders
Mindy Kaling, who will recur in the untitled comedy, reteams with Charlie Grandy. The duo will co-write the Universal Television and 3 Arts comedy as well as exec produce. The Kaling comedy centers on Vince, a charismatic gym owner with no ambition who lives with his younger brother Michael, a gorgeous idiot. Their simple life of women and working out is put on hold when the teenage son of Vince is dropped off on their doorstep by Priya (Kaling), one of his old high school flings.

The Sackett Sisters, meanwhile, reteams Tina Fey with frequent collaborator Robert Carlock as well as Luke Del Tredici. The latter is set to pen the script for the single-camera comedy that revolves around the Sackett family, which is reunited when two estranged sisters perform an act of public heroism and are forced to navigate the aftermath together.

Finally, Spaced Out — NBC’s first buy this pilot season from Warner Bros. Television — is from Adam Sztykiel, who will pen the script, and Bill Lawrence. The latter will executive produce alongside his WBTV-based Doozer Productions banner topper Jeff Ingold. The single-camera entry is described as a workplace comedy that centers on a working-class genius and his struggles to fit in with an established team, made all the more difficult when their job is building a rocket to Mars.

Adam Scott, Craig Robinson Comedy ‘Ghosted’ Ordered to Pilot at Fox
Fox on Thursday has handed out a pilot order to Ghosted, a single-camera comedy starring Adam Scott and Craig Robinson. Ghosted is described as a comedic take on The X-Files. Tom Gormican will pen the script and executive produce alongside Robinson, Scott and his wife/producing partner Naomi Scott, as well as 3 Arts’ Mark Schulman and Oly Obst. The project hails from 20th Century Fox Television. Kevin Etten also will exec produce and serve as showrunner.

Fox’s ‘The Passage’ Adaptation Lands Pilot Pickup
Fox handed out a pilot order to an adaptation of Justin Cronin’s book The Passage. The Passage begins as a character-driven government conspiracy thriller and morphs into a post-apocalyptic saga with vampires. The potential series spans over a century and focuses on a young girl named Amy who must save the human race. It will be written by Elizabeth Heldens, with grad Matt Reeves attached to executive produce alongside Scott Free’s Ridley Scott and David W. Zucker. The drama is being produced by 20th Century Fox Television.

It might seem weird to have a Marvel show on FX, or to have it star that upper-crust Brit from Downton Abbey, filtered through the creator of Fargo, but somehow it all works. Three episodes of Legion — in all their cracked visual glory — were enough to want the rest of the season immediately.
