(from Fri) Syfy Orders George RR Martin’s ‘Nightflyers’ to Pilot
has ordered a pilot based on “Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin’s novella “Nightflyers.” Jeff Buhler wrote the adaptation for television. The story follows eight maverick scientists and a powerful telepath who embark on an expedition to the edge of our solar system in the hopes of contacting alien life.

(sched) ‘Marvel’s Inhumans’ Gets Premiere Date On ABCABC has set Friday, September 29 for the premiere of Marvel’s Inhumans, its anticipated series based on the comic books. The first two episodes will air back-to-back September 29 from 8-10 PM on ABC.

(from Fri) ‘Downward Dog’ Canceled By ABC After 1 Season, Will Be Shopped To Other NetsABC has canceled new comedy series Downward Dogsix episodes into its eight-episode first season. Co-creators Samm Hodges and Michael Killen shared the news via Twitter. In the note to fans (read it below), they stress that the reasons for the cancellation were strictly financial and that they are “committed to finding a new home.”

pilot has found its leading lady. Emily Rudd is to set to star in the comedic crime drama. Olive Forever follows the exploits of Olive, a mysterious high school student with an affection for cat burglary-type shenanigans, mostly because she is a cat burglar.

Luke Grimes
will star opposite Kevin Costner in “Yellowstone.” The Paramount Network show is set in the largest contiguous ranch in the United States, which, despite its size, finds its borders threatened by land developers, an Indian reservation, and America’s first national park.

(2 Broke Girls) is set for a recurring role on Season 2 of One Day At A Time, Netflix’s reimagining of Norman Lear’s classic. Birgundi Baker (Empire) and Cameron Gellman (20th Century Women) have signed on for recurring roles in Heathers, based on the 1988 cult classic film set for premiere on Paramount Network in 2018.

ABC’s 2017 Talent Competition Kicks Off; Expands To UKABC‘s annual search for new acting talent is underway. The 2017 ABC Discovers: Digital Talent Competition is accepting submissions beginning Monday, June 26 through Sunday, July 9. Actors 18 and older can submit a video performing one of the comedy or drama scenes posted on Performers are judged on the quality of performance, potential star power and technical skill set. The prize is a one-year $25,000 talent deal with ABC.


‘Star Wars’ Firing Reveals a Disturbance in the FranchiseNew details emerge from the set of the troubled Han Solo movie (an editor fired, a last-minute acting coach hired) as insiders debate whether problems trace to directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller or if the Disney and Lucasfilm series can accommodate divergent styles. …Lord and Miller were not prepared to have Kasdan become a shadow director. With an impasse reached, Kennedy finally pulled the trigger. The next day, when the crew was told that Ron Howard would take over as director, sources say they broke into applause.


Facebook’s plan for original TV is coming togetherThe first crop of its original series has been set to launch later this summer (though a source later noted that was a “moving target”), and will have both the runtime and the budget of full-fledged cable TV productions. Thirty-minute episodes will include ads, and Facebook is reportedly willing to pay up to $3 million per episode for centerpiece shows. The company is also reportedly interested in sitcom programming with episodic budgets in the six-figure range. …Sources said that Facebook was looking to target an age range of 13–34, focusing on 17–30, and that the company was interested in its own takes on popular reality programming like The Bachelor, melodramas like Scandal, and a large swathe of comedy, but not shows about teens, nor “political dramas, news [or] shows with nudity and rough language.” Refinery29’s Strangers, which debuted at Sundance in January, is one of the first shows set to debut on the platform, alongside a revival of MTV’s Loosely Exactly Nicole. …And, in a major break from the way online competitors like Netflix and Hulu have been doing business, it will also open up its viewership data to Hollywood.

‘Mystery Science Theater 3000’ Marathon to Stream Free on Twitch
is back at it again with the stunt programming. Over a six-day stretch, 38 episodes of B-movie riffing comedy “Mystery Science Theater 3000” will live-stream on the Amazon-owned video game broadcasting service.

(from Fri) Netflix Orders Justin Willman Magic Reality SeriesAs part of its push into reality programming, Netflix has greenlighted an original magic series created and headlined by magician/comedian Justin Willman. The streaming network has ordered six half-hour episodes of the untitled project for a 2018 launch. In what is believed to be Netflix’s first original foray into the magic space, the comedic docuseries will follow Willman as he brings his skills as a magician to the strange and misunderstood subcultures of America.

(from Fri) Limited Series In Works Based On New Evidence Of Clutter Family Murders, Basis For Capote Bestseller ‘In Cold Blood’After new evidence emerged in the 1959 murders of the Herbert Clutter family, made famous by Truman Capote’s book In Cold Blood, Glass Entertainment Group and Daniel H. Birman Productions have joined to produce a limited series based on what is one of the most famous crime stories in American history. This is the second series that we know of that is re-examining these murders. The other coming this fall is from documentarian Joe Berlinger and Sundance TV which has a four-part doc series tentatively titled Murder in the Heartland: In Cold Blood Revisited.


Netflix makes it Rain as Danish drama nearsProduction has begun on streaming service Netflix’s first Scandinavian original, a dystopian drama. The Rain has gone into production in Denmark, with FremantleMedia-owned Miso Film attached as producer.Set six years in the future, follows two siblings who join a group of young survivors of a brutal virus that has wiped out almost all of Scandinavia’s population.The Rain comes from Scandinavian screenwriter Jannik Tai Moshol, Esben Toft Jacobsen and Christian Potalivo.
